We have learned from sleep studies over the last couple of decades that how many hours you sleep may not be as important as the quality of the sleep you get. If you’re getting proper sleep, you may only require five or six hours of sleep. Every person is unique and our needs really vary. So, it’s all about creating the proper environment for better sleep.

One way to create a good environment for sleep is to eliminate any distractions and things that would normally signal your body to be awake. Laptops, cell phones and TVs are a big part of things that signal our body’s skin that it’s still time to stay awake. The blue light that comes from these devices tells our body that it’s awake time.

It takes away all the energy that’s required to keep you in position, because now the bed is doing all the work, suspending you in your sleep surface. Now, all those systems within you can shut off. It allows your body to slow down and your metabolism to slow down. Your oxygen supply balances and it allows you to really calm down to the point where sleep is inevitable.
