2023 Christmas Tree Decorating Contest at Grand Home Furnishings

2023 Christmas Tree Decorating Contest at Grand Home Furnishings

Every year our stores have a "friendly" decorating competition amongst themselves. They all have a $100 budget and a 12 foot Christmas tree to decorate. Scroll through to see each store's tree design.

#1: Christmas Songs Tree in Charlottesville, VA
We decorated our tree with the old song pretty paper, pretty ribbons and bows in mind. There is nothing like a good Christmas song to get you in the spirit of the Holiday Season!

#2: The Nightmare Before Christmas Tree in Martinsburg, WV
Welcome to the realm of Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas! In celebration of its 30th anniversary, we decided to split our tree to show both the lands of Halloweentown and Christmas Town and bring some of our favorite bone-chilling characters to life. We have made over 250 decorations by hand this year, including carved pumpkins, clay figurines, and hand painted ornaments. Our goal this year was to show the magic of Christmas, right alongside the insanity of preparing for it.

#3: Gingerbread Memories Tree in Winchester, VA
Gingerbread Memories is the inspiration for our 2023 Christmas Tree. Handmade Gingerbread kids, lollipops, paper chain and a gingerbread house all decked out with Santa and Mrs. Claus bring back memories of baking and decorating in the family kitchen. The smell of cinnamon pine cones and candy canes make us hungry for Christmas sweets. You can see gingerbread houses and their inhabitants living amongst the ornaments while they prepare for the Christmas season. Toy Soldiers guard a walkway covered in snow and lined with lollipops and candy canes. A snow storm is swirling around in the snow globe and kids have even left cookies and milk by the fireplace for Santa!

#4: Grand Superman Tree in Lewisburg, WV
We decided to do a Superman Tree this year. We know that this is a hard time of the year for a lot of people, and everyone would like to have a hero no matter how big or small to swoop in and save their day when everything is falling.

#5: Grinchy Christmas Tree in Harrisonburg, VA
Christmas morning came, much of their surprise, it was gone and no one knew why.
The Who's in Whoville, all wondered what happened to their tree!
The Grinch had taken off with it, on a pair of old skis!!

#6: Magic of Christmas Tree in Christiansburg, VA

WHERE IS SANTA?  Rudolph, we need you again, to light and lead the way to find Santa. So that we may deliver a little happiness to all the boys and girls that made the nice list this year. Rudolph without question agreed and off he went to all 4 corners of the globe having many adventures along the way. He made many new friends in the land of the giant gingerbread men. He learned how to sail the turbulent sea current during his time with the Sea Turtle Queen. He built up his Spirit while working with elves to finish making the last of the toys. (They have the best work ethic ever, by the way!) He also learned the NO.1 way to get some ZEEZ....Counting Sheep! He searched high and low meeting many more wonderful people. They all wanted to help him find Santa. Everyone was looking and in no time, Santa was found.  CHRISTMAS WAS SAVED!! Through his adventures Rudolph made a magnificent discovery. The toys themselves aren't what make Christmas special and magical. It's the giving of those gifts and all that goes into it. Rudolph had made so many friends while searching for Santa and they all had given so much of themselves to save Christmas. The camaraderie, that developed between them all while they were working on that common goal was something truly wonderful and perfect. It's the very essence of what truly fuels the Magic of Christmas.

#7: Home Sweet Home Tree in Waynesboro, VA
With all that's going on in the world we all need a safe place to be. Our home is the core base of he family. The gingerbread theme is associated with cooking and the wonderful smells of Christmas. We always enjoy when we walk through the doors of our home. We did the gingerbread theme to remind us of the love, the warmth and the memories of Christmas. Our tree is baked with love, baking spirits bright and baked with sweet memories. All the ornaments are homemade by 3 of our sales staff. We send you holiday wishes made with gingerbread kisses and Christmas wishes!

#8: The Giving Tree in Lynchburg, VA
We wanted to do something that would help people long after Christmas. Our tree is decorated with hats, scarves, gloves, socks and blankets. We have had a wonderful outpouring of generosity from churches, local businesses and customers. We've had people donate hundreds of hats, scarves, and gloves that were crocheted and knitted from as far away as Oregon and Minnesota. Everything on our 12 foot tree will be donated to local shelters to help veterans, senior citizens, homeless and those in need. We are humbled and grateful to the people who have helped us put this together. We also had a little fun with creating a wash tub with soapsuds, and a laundry line for Santa.

#9: L'Amour De Noel Tree in Johnson City, TN
In the enchanting theme of "L'Amour de Noël - Victorian Christmas Memories of Years Gone By," the act of decorating the Christmas tree becomes a nostalgic journey into the heart of cherished traditions. With an emphasis on the love and warmth of the holiday season, the tree is adorned with delicate ornaments that evoke the elegance of Victorian times. Soft colors, chosen with care to instill calmness and peace, gracefully drape the branches, creating a serene atmosphere that transports everyone to a bygone era.

#10: Ray Ray the Clearance Christmas Gnome Tree in Bristol, VA

Ray Ray, our Clearance Christmas Tree Gnome sits at the front of our store. He has the best clearance prices around. We invite all our wonderful Grand customers to see our Clearance Christmas Gnome and check out his low clearance prices.

#11: Colorful Christmas Tree in Wise, VA
Our rainbow-colored tree symbolizes so many things to so many different people. The six different colors of ornaments displayed mirror the beauty of that natural wonder we see in the sky when the sunlight reflects through droplets of rain. With our country and surrounding areas in such turmoil we thought we would add a little color to our Christmas and with each color symbolizing something different we thought it was fitting. We think we all can agree that in today's world we could all use a little more strength, passion, wisdom, organization, harmony, wealth, trust, loyalty, love, warmth, success, and triumph. So, from our family to yours...MERRY CHRISTMAS!

#12: Peace on Earth Tree in Roanoke, VA at the Valley View store
With all that is going on in the world, especially over the last year it moved us toward this theme. The colors are symbolic in several ways - Blue and white are the colors of Peace, serenity, purity and trust; all of which we need in the world for all nations to have peace. There are also symbolic meanings to the ornaments. There are dove feathers in glass and doves - symbols of peace. There are also the words peace in several different languages. It is our Hope that someday, we will enjoy complete peace around the world, not only during the holidays, but every day.

#13: Christmas A Honey of a Season Tree in Beckley, WV
We just simply wanted to use a different season to show it can be used to decorate for Christmas too. We wanted to insert a little warmth into the Christmas season.

#14: Favorite Christmas Movie Memories Tree in Kingsport, TN
We all have one...that favorite Christmas Movie...The one you sit around a fire drinking hot chocolate with your family & creating memories to last a lifetime. This year we pay homage to our favorite Christmas movies and hope you make your own red carpet event with your family...be it all dressed up or in holiday pajamas...thanks for the memories!

#15: The Whoville Tree in Princeton, WV
The Grinch and his dog Max live a lonely existence inside a cave on Mount Crumpit. His main source of aggravation comes from when the Who's down in Whoville celebrate Christmastime with a bang! We decided we wanted to join the Who's in celebrating with a bang at Grand Home Furnishings.

#16: Ole Fashioned Christmas Tree in Roanoke, VA at the Tanglewood store

Our theme this year was an Ole Fashioned Christmas. Two rocking chairs beckons visitors to linger, sip on hot cocoa, and savor the simple pleasures of the season. This Christmas tree captures the essence of a country holiday, where traditions are cherished, and the spirit of Christmas fills the air with joy.

We're excited to announce the winner of our store Christmas Tree Decorating Contest.
