3 small living room layout ideas

3 small living room layout ideas

Just because you have a small living room doesn't mean it has to feel boxed in or confining. Making the most of your tight quarters is all about designing the perfect layout. After all, choosing the right furniture and accents for your space is only the first step in the design process. You have to consider how you're going to arrange your home furnishings and decor to really make your living room work.

Try these three layout ideas for your small living room:

1. For rooms with bay windows

Love seats are ideal for small living rooms, as they're not too large, contribute generous seating space and can serve as head-turning accents. If your room features bay windows, consider centering your love seat in front of them as the foundation of your layout. Then, add two small end tables to each side of our love seat. Set up your coffee table in the middle of the room and on the other side, place two armchairs facing your windows. Elegant wingback chairs will create a sophisticated space. On the wall diagonal from your sofa, decorate with a slim console table and a recamier on the opposite wall.

2. For small corner spaces

Make the most of your corner living room with a sectional sofa. A clean-cut, tailored sectional will keep the space looking open and elegant. This will also ensure you have ample space for entertaining, despite the close quarters. For front-facing conversation, place stools and a coffee table pulled in close to your sectional.

3. For media-focused rooms

If you use your gathering area primarily for watching television, you'll want to arrange your furniture around your entertainment center or TV. Create an open feel by setting up your sofa so that it floats in the middle of the room. Your media center should be against the focal wall, facing your couch. If you have room, complete the layout with a slipper accent chair and an ottoman, which can serve as a coffee table in the center of your area or as extra seating space if needed.
