Giving back to the community is nothing new for us at Grand Home Furnishings and it’s actually the foundation for our business. The founder of Grand Home Furnishings, George B. Cartledge Sr., lived his life insisting on treating everyone “right”, especially customers. He set an outstanding example as a citizen. Both personally and corporately, giving generously to the community.
Mr. Cartledge Sr.’s legacy lives on in the company to which he gave so much energy and guidance and within the communities his efforts benefited. When asked about his generosity, he would simply tell you, “You have to put more into business, into the community, into living than you take out.” And so the tradition of giving back lives on.
Grand provides to the communities in which it operates, tens of thousands of dollars each year in support for charitable organizations, donations of furniture and services. Our employees also enjoy giving back to the community. Each Grand Home Furnishings store has a Benevolent Fund, into which employees have the option of donating a part of their weekly pay, which is then matched dollar-for-dollar by the company. The Benevolent Fund is then distributed at the employees’ direction to non-profit organizations within their communities.
In 2011, as part of Grand Home Furnishings’ 100th anniversary, we established the Grand Happiness Foundation with the mission to bring happiness in all communities where there are Grand stores, working with organizations that help families. During this year we donated $315,700 worth of furniture and financial support to over 100 local charitable organizations
